Women With Disability ACT

Strong Women, Strong Self Managers

Describe your community ambition

To hold a forum for women with disabilities on self-management of their NDIS packages. The need for this is demonstrated through the anecdotal evidence that Women With Disability ACT (WWDACT) has received during the ACT Trial and through meetings WWDACT attends where NDIA representatives have indicated that self-management among participants is low.

How will you take action to achieve your ambition?

By holding a forum, WWDACT aims to increase the inclusion of women with disabilities in all facets of life including the economic community. The forum will invite members of the community sector and the National Disability Insurance Agency to speak on behalf of their organisations and present information. Our goal is to strengthen the links between women with disabilities to create a stronger network.

‘Strong Women, Strong Self Managers’ will be held on Tuesday 29 November from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Room 6, 20 Genge Street, Canberra. For more information please contact 6290 2166 or wwdact@wchm.org.au.

How could people in the community support your ambition?

By attending the forum, spreading the word and sharing via social media.

How will you promote your ambition to the community?

We intend to promote ‘Strong Women, Strong Self Managers’ via social media, disability distribution email lists, ACT government notices, local radio, local papers and other community sector newsletters.

What will success look like?

A well attended forum where women with disabilities continue to develop the knowledge and confidence to fully participate in both economic and community life.

As we all know, the NDIS is a revolutionary scheme for women with disabilities. But what happens after you have entered the scheme? It's so important for women with disabilities to have control over the supports in their lives and to feel safe with these supports, but how do you achieve this?? If you want to know, come along to the WWDACD Self-Management Forum! It is going to be held in November and today we can announce the presenters. They include:

Community Options;

Better Caring;

My Voice and

representatives from the National Disability Insurance Agency.

These presenters will be talking about the avenues they offer that can help you to either fully or partially self manage your own plan. They will be talking about the different options and platforms they use that can assist you to take control and feel safe. We are calling the forum "Strong Women, Strong Self Managers" to reflect the fact that women with disabilities in the ACT and surrounding region are completely capable and willing to take control of their supports.
